Information on Toe Nail Fungus
Nail Fungus is a type of fungi called Tinea Unguium. This fungi
lives and breeds underneath your toe nails. Your nails are very
good at blocking infections. They provide a strong border
against fungi, bacteria and small organisms. However, even
though your toe nails block infections very well, once your toe
nail is infected, your nails actually work against you making
the infection difficult to treat.
Over 30 million Americans have Tinea Unguium. These types of
fungi live in dark, damp places making your feet extremely
appealing. If you use nail products like polish and acrylic
nails, you have a higher risk of developing this fungi due to
these products actually trapping and locking moisture into the
nail.
Toe Nail Fungus can also be spread to others, so take extra
precautions. Make sure you have something on your feet if you
are using a public shower and don't use another person's nail
file or nail cleaning instruments.
If you are experiencing Toe Nail Fungus, there are many
treatments available. You can use anti-fungal creams and
lotions. There are a host of these products on the market which
don't require a prescription. Many of these products do take a
few weeks to work, because it is relatively difficult to get
underneath the toe and contain the fungus.
If you still have trouble treating this fungus, consult a
physician. There is an oral treatment on the market. However it
requires a prescription and as with all medications can have
side effects or may not be suitable for everyone.
