How I Avoid Credit Card Frauds
Credit card frauds have become very common. They cost people
like you and me - the cardholders - and card issuers hundreds of
millions of dollars every year. Though theft of credit card is
most common, fraud can occur in other ways. Someone could use my
credit card number without my knowledge. I may not be able to
prevent a credit card fraud from happening, but I can certainly
take steps to make it difficult for a crook to steal my card or
card number.
Some Do's and Don'ts I certainly guard against credit card fraud
and here is how to avoid credit card frauds:
Do's
- I sign the credit card as soon as I receive it. - I take
precaution of carrying my credit card separately from my wallet.
In a separate zippered pouch. - I have a record of my credit
card numbers, their expiry dates, and contact numbers and
addresses of each credit card issuer, in a secure place. - While
making a transaction, I ensure that the credit card is never out
of my sight, and get it back, as soon as the transaction is
complete. - While signing a receipt, I ensure that the blank
space in the receipt is crossed. This ensures that there will be
no fraudulent addition to the receipt later. - I save the
receipts to compare, later, with the monthly bill. - Immediately
on receiving the bills, I compare and reconcile with my
receipts. - I report any discrepancies in the billing,
immediately, to the card issuer.
Don'ts
- I never lend my card to anyone. - I ensure that my credit
cards are not left lying around. - I make sure that I never sign
a blank credit card receipt. - I never give out my credit card
details over the phone or the Internet to anyone.
These few precautions are some of the ways I use to avoid credit
card frauds. In the forthcoming article I will tell you more
bout different types of credit card frauds.
